The Bishop of Worcester is pleased to announce the appointment of The Revd Roderick Corke as Vicar of the Benefice of Great Malvern.
Rod is currently Vicar of the Benefice of St Mary Magdalene and St John the Evangelist, Taunton, in the Diocese of Bath and Wells. He is married to Rita, a relationship counsellor, and they have three adult children.
The Collation and Induction Service will take place on Sunday 24th June at 6.00pm in the Priory. We look forward to this and ask you to keep Rod and Rita and current congregation in Taunton in your prayers.
Rita and I are delighted that God has called us to come to Great Malvern Priory. This is part of a journey of ministry that we have been on since I was ordained in 1992.
Rita and I were both teaching when I felt God’s calling towards ordination. After training at St John’s College, Nottingham, we moved to Felixstowe for my curacy.
Eventually I became Team Rector of the Orwell Team Ministry before we felt God’s call to come to Taunton. St Mary Magdalene church is a joyful place to be and it has been a privilege and pleasure to serve God here. There are strong ecumenical relationships across the town. This has led to the establishment of Town Centre Chaplains to serve the businesses and shops and the formation of a charity called Charis, which has provided resettlement for Syrian refugees.
Rita and I have been married 37 years. Rita works as a relationship counsellor, working with Relate and Relationship Somerset. We have three grown up children, Hilary, Laura and Simon and four young grandchildren between seven years old and six months. Jack, our springador is excited about exploring the Malvern Hills and so are we. We are really looking forward to getting to know you all. It won’t be long now before we are all working together to share the good news that is knowing Jesus and sharing His love. Thank you for waiting so patiently, prayerfully and expectantly.
