The Friends of Malvern Priory

  The Friends of Malvern Priory

 (Registered Charity No. 503383)

The Society of Friends of Malvern Priory has been in existence for over 60 years to draw together a like-minded body of people; ‘Friends’ who all love the Priory Church and are willing to share in the privilege of preserving its ancient beauty and of handing on its glories for the future.

The Society, formed in 1949, was registered as a charity in November 1974 with the objectives to maintain the fabric, furnishings and adornment of the Priory.   Continuation of this support remains at the forefront of The Friends objectives today.  The Constitution which has been in place since The Friends formation was updated during 2013 and adopted at the AGM in December 2013.

The help which The Friends are able to give the PCC has done much to maintain these objects of beauty and also added to the amenities of the church.

For the past few years they have financed, and with sufficient support from members will continue to finance, most of the repairs to the fabric and many small items of detail internally.

Membership of The Friends

The Friends are completely non-denominational, different ages and have members who share the same aim and interest, not only from Malvern, but in many parts of Britain and countries throughout the world.

Membership is open to those who wish to help with the preservation of this important part of our heritage and traditions. If you are interested in supporting us by becoming a member, please either complete the membership application form Click on this link or contact the Parish Office.

The Friends Tile

This locally made tile dating from the middle of the 15th Century is known as the ‘Friends Tile’. The verse printed on it advises the readers to be aware of their mortality and so to give money in their lifetime rather than bequeathing later. Two copies of the tile remain in the Priory.  The easiest to find is set into the pillar near the main door, the other (which is rather more worn) is in the bottom row of the upper section of tiles on the wall of the North Choir aisle.
