Intercessions - 26/04

Intercessions (from Rosemary Webster):

Sovereign Lord, we come before you now to pray for our world, gripped by the terrible pandemic. We focus now on the COVID-19 virus here in Britain. We pray you will give wisdom to our government in all decision making. We remember before you now our NHS and everyone who is working under this big umbrella, praying for your protection for each one.

We want to thank you Lord for all who are using their talents in treating and caring for those who are ill, and pray that you  will sustain and strengthen them, especially when they are weary and feel overwhelmed by the suffering they experience in caring for their patients. Comfort all those who are grieving the loss of loved ones, their grief compounded because of the lack of comforting hugs.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

Lord we come to you our hearts full of gratitude for the inspirational faith and courage shown to us through the lives of Christians around the world, all who suffer and die for their faith. None of this would be possible without the many prayers offered for them. In a moment of silence, we want to hold all our brothers and sisters from all the corners of the Earth who are not only suffering for their faith but also now having to face COVID-19 as well and dying as a result of this.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

Lord we pray for all the 60,000 North Korean Christians many of whom are enduring horrendous conditions in prison for their faith. We praise you that despite this your church is growing. We pray for protection for Open Doors workers who provide the vital aid as well as Bibles to those who are suffering. We can hardly imagine the depth of hardship in the prisons, but we pray Lord for strength, sustenance and courage for each one and pray that their faith will remain strong. As the North Koreans pray for their leader Kim Jong Il we join in praying for him too, that the Lord will break into his life.

Lord in Your Mercy, hear our prayer

In this month of Ramadan, we pray for protection of all Christians in Islamic countries, as they face increased scrutiny and find it difficult to hide their faith. Give them courage as they face danger, we pray for the millions of Muslims observing Ramadan, that God will reveal himself as they pray and fast, and we pray many will discover the love of Jesus during this time. We pray for Indian Christians, for their protection as they face horrific levels of violence from extremist Hindus, who want to rid India of all Christians. We remember all pastors whose churches have been attacked, praying that they will have wisdom and courage to strengthen their congregations. We pray for Open Doors partners serving those in most need. We remember before you too Christians in northern Nigeria, especially that the many abused Nigerian women will have their hopes and dignity restored

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

Lord, as two of your followers emerged from lockdown in Jerusalem and walked to Emmaus, their emotions were mixed and confused. You yourself drew near and went with them. Lord in these troubled times, many persecuted Christians are confused and bewildered; Lord, draw near and walk with them. In these troubled times of COVID-19, we are confused and bewildered; Lord draw  near and walk with us.

Risen Lord, walk with us,

speak with us,

reveal  yourself to us

May our hearts burn within us, set on fire by your loving presence.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
