Sunday 9th August, 9th Sunday after Trinity

Dear friends,

Welcome to this week's newsletter. May the Lord bless you especially in this coming week.

It says in Mathew's Gospel "But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." Matthew ch14 v27.  Today is the 9thSunday after Trinity, and our theme is "Walking on Water". I will be reflecting on this Biblical passage.

Last Sunday marked a return to services in the Priory, and it was good to be back worshipping God in church. The 8am BCP communion service went particularly smoothly, and it was a joy to hear the ancient, familiar words again. The 10am was for those who had no online access or had been shielding. I was pleased with the response, although the church was not full. We were particularly pleased that the 10am congregation were able to leave before the 11am congregation arrived. This means we can take another small step and allow some music to be played before each service this week. I want to thank Anne and the Custos team for managing this all safely and within the guidelines. Wearing face masks in church is now mandatory. Those leading are exempt, although I will always face shield when preparing and taking communion.

On Wednesday this week we welcomed back our first cohort of visitors. The shop was open too. This is another step forward to normality. We aim to start in a small way - learn from the experience - and then take another small step when we can.

Last week I promised a report on our family trip to West Midlands Safari Park. With our young granddaughter desperate for the toilet in the middle of passing through the lion enclosure, the trip was not without incident! Nevertheless, we had a thoroughly enjoyable time and Rita and I even ventured on some daring rides (well, daring to us anyway!). A great day to treasure.

Bishop John will be visiting the Priory on 27thSeptember at 10.30am to ordain Jonny a priest. Rita and I are delighted! More details will follow.

We have had a kind offer to replace the protecting tape with rope. Hopefully, this will happen as soon as possible.

Every blessing,

Rod
