Sunday 23rd August, 11th Sunday after Trinity

Dear friends,

Welcome to this week's newsletter. May the Lord bless you especially in this coming week.

It says in Mathew's Gospel:  "But what about you?" Jesus asked, "Who do you say I am?"  Simon Peter answered "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Matthew Ch16 v15.  Today is the 11thSunday after Trinity, and our theme is "Who is Jesus?". David will be reflecting on this Biblical passage.

We are delighted that we can enjoy celebrating communion this week and next week at 9.30am and 11.00am. We have now perfected a way of delivering the bread and wine without the elements being touched by human hands. We hope this will give everyone assurance. The wafer is spotted by wine by our custos team using a pipette in a clean environment. The wafers are placed in a siboriam with a lid. This is opened and blessed at the eucharistic prayer by the celebrant (me!) and I will be wearing latex gloves and a face shield. I will bring the communion to you. Please sit until I come to you, then stand to receive and sit once more.

At the 9.30 and 11.00am services Andrew Caskie will play and Rebecca will sing. New guidance has come out allowing small groups to sing providing they are socially distant. When Piers returns from holiday I will discuss with him what this means for our services – but it is very good news.

Once communion services are established, we will look to see what can be done especially for families. We are trying very hard to move slowly and safely in a positive direction towards normality.

As I was writing this letter, an email came in cancelling our holiday to The Azores and giving us a full refund. We are relieved and delighted! This has been a great worry for us, having to consider enduring two covid tests and 14 days of strict quarantine when we returned. I will now be able to take part in Jonny's Priesting. Praise the Lord!

Every blessing,

Rod
