Intercessions - 07/06

O God of love, we come to You as our Heavenly Father, creator and sustainer of all, through Jesus Christ your Son, our living Redeemer and friend, in the power of your Holy Spirit of truth and love.

Although we cannot meet as a church to celebrate together this Trinity Sunday, we thank you that we belong to your worldwide family, and you have commissioned us to express your message of love and hope to a world in darkness and sorrow. We pray for wisdom and sensitivity for our church leaders and for one another as we seek to serve you in new ways in these difficult days.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

In the wake of the terrible death in custody of George Floyd in Minnesota, we pray for an end to the injustices perpetrated by overt or unconscious racism in our world. We ask that ignorance or indifference will not close our eyes to the suffering of others. We pray for restraint and restorative justice. Thank you that we are each precious in your sight, and may our actions, both personal and collective, reflect your love and care for the individual.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for countries in Latin America suffering badly from the Covid-19 virus, remembering the poor and vulnerable in areas where health care is less available, especially in the cities. May isolated indigenous communities also be protected from the virus. We pray for our mission partners Paul and Sarah Tester and their family, and for the members of our link church in Pamplona Baha, Lima, Peru, through a very strict lock-down. Please bless their efforts to help the most vulnerable, and to point people to hope in Jesus in such challenging times.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for wisdom and good judgement for our government and their advisors as they decide crucial timings for easing the lockdown, and we ask that people will not exceed the new freedoms. We pray that teachers and pupils in our local schools will find ways of adapting and feeling at ease as they open step by step. Please prosper the efforts of all engaged worldwide in scientific and medical research. May they co-operate well to understand the covid-19 virus better and to find new treatments and a safe vaccine, so that the virus will be contained and overcome.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We thank you that you promise to be with us always. We pray for your comfort and healing for all who have lost a loved one, or have lost health and strength, or livelihood, or future plans, in this pandemic. We pray for protection and peace of mind for those who feel particularly vulnerable. We also pray for your protection and strength for all who are working courageously to care for the sick, the vulnerable, and the dying. We pray for energy and resilience for other key workers growing and supplying essential food, those in the service industries, and those continuing to provide vital protective equipment.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God our Father, may Your Holy Spirit dwell in us and help us each day to make a difference just where we are, living as Your children and joint heirs with Christ. Please use us to make this earth a place where Your kingdom comes.

We bring all these prayers to You through Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
