Newsletter - 13/09

Sunday 13th September, 14th Sunday after Trinity

Dear all,

Welcome to Great Malvern Priory, it's a pleasure to have you with us this week whether in person in the Priory or through our online service. An extra special welcome to those who are new with us or joining us for the first time.

It's been great to be able to worship in person over the past month and especially as we have been able to add more music, voices and faces to our morning services. It's also brilliant to be back online after the team had a well-deserved break through August. We are working towards more capacity in the Priory over the coming weeks, but whether we are there together or joining in through a screen, we know Jesus is the same and present in both.

If you're missing our choir as much as I am, you'll be pleased to know that they are beginning to rehearse again but also that their brand new CD will soon be available to purchase via the shop from 19thSeptember. I haven't had a chance to listen yet, but Rod had a sneak preview and found 'Hills of the North Rejoice' particularly beautiful.

As we head into this week with the uncertainty on new rules and rising Covid cases, our Archbishop Justin has brought some encouraging words that remind us of why we gather, in person or digitally: 'Worship is the work of God, not a social gathering, and gives the strength to love and serve.' So, let us take that into everything we do this week; work, friendship, service or worship.

Blessings,

Jonny (Curate)

Information

Sunday services in the Priory This weekwe have 8am BCP Communion (for those who have regularly attended this service in the past) and 9.30am/11.00am Holy Communion. Revd Ted Crofton will preside at all 3 services. Next week (20thSeptember) there will be BCP Holy Communion at 8am, celebrant Revd Tim Gunter, and Morning Worship at 9.30am and 11am led by Chris Boulton with preacher Dr David Webster.  Please remember that you need to book for the 9.30am and 11am services because of limited numbers. Face coverings must be worn unless you are exempt on health grounds. The gates will be open at 7.40am for the 8am service, 9.15am for the 9.30am service; and 10.45am for the 11am service, but you may have to queue outside for entry to maintain social distancing.

From October the usual pattern of services will be Holy Communion on the 1st and 3rd Sundays, and Morning Worship on 2nd and 4th Sundays.

The Priory will be open Mon/Wed/Thur from 11am to 4pm and Tues/Fri/Sat  11am to 1.30pm (for general visitors and private prayer). A maximum of 30 people are allowed in at any one time.  Please maintain social distancing at all times and follow the instructions given. Unfortunately the toilets will not be open.

Messy Church families, come and enjoy Virtual Messy Church on Sunday 13th September in the afternoon. Crafts, fun and songs. The theme is 'God made us for one another'. Can also be seen the following week in the morning.

A date for our diaries Because of the coronavirus pandemic we had to postpone this year's Annual Church Meeting. It will now take place at 7.30pm on Thursday 22nd October 2020. To enable as many people as possible to attend, taking into account social distancing guidance, the meeting will take the form of a telephone/Zoom video conference (The link to enable members of the congregation to join the meeting will be circulated a few days before the meeting, and again on the day of the meeting). This is our opportunity to reflect on our activities last year, review our finances and learn about the current situation with the Priory Plan. Not to be missed! The Booklet of Reports to the APCM is available on the members' section of the Priory website, and there are copies available at services today.

Your PCC needs YOU!  Elections to fill 6 vacancies on the PCC will be heldat October's Annual Church Meeting. The time commitment is not too onerous, with four or five Thursday evening PCC meetings and one Saturday meeting per annum. Members will also serve on one of four committees – Buildings & Grounds, Finance, Mission and Worship. This is your chance to contribute to decision-making in your church. If you feel that you could serve in this important way, please download and complete a nomination form from the website and return it to the PCC Secretary at The  Parish Office, Church House, Church Street, Malvern WR14 2AY, or by email. Alternatively, nomination forms are available by contacting the Parish Office. Previous PCC experience definitely not required! Nominations are also invited for 5 representatives on the Deanery Synod (see separate nomination form).

Choirs CD The CD of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany music, "People, look East", recorded by the Priory choirs back in February (with Peter Shepherd on organ), will be available for sale through the Priory Friends' Shop from next weekend (19th September).

Wednesday 16 September: music will be performed in the Priory by professional pianist, Jill Crossland between 13.00 -14.00. Social distancing and COVID-19 protocols are in place and this may mean that a queuing system (similar to that of shops) may have to be instigated with a 'one in, one out' policy in operation.

A farmers' market will be held on the Glebe on 19thSeptember.

The Parish Office is closed until further notice. You can contact the office by email, which is monitored regularly.

Intercessions Suggested prayers of intercession for this week can be found using the link on the right. This week these have been written by Rosemary Webster.
