Creation Window on the road
It was a busy Saturday morning at the Priory.
The Bellringers were spring cleaning, the Just-a-Cuppa team serving teas and coffees and good cheer and the Tour Guide leading fascinated visitors through the history and the treasures of the Priory.
But in the churchyard, un-noticed to many, something amazing was happening. Priceless treasures were being loaded into the back of an unassuming panel van. The Creation Window was leaving the Priory for its journey north in the care of the York Glaziers Trust.
Panel after panel of (to the inexperienced eye) rather grubby looking stained glass was carried and very, very gently transferred into the back of the van.
Packed in special cases, surrounded by shock-absorbing material, the Creation Window is, as this is typed, travelling north.
Safe journey! We look forward to its return, refreshed, next year, so the sun can once more send twinkling patches of mediaeval colour across the walls of St Anne’s chapel.
Thanks to The Friends of Malvern Priory, The Worshipful Company of Painters and Glaziers of Glass and the Headley Trust, for providing the funding to make this possible.
