The final plank
How many workers does it take to lay a plank?
If it’s the final, final plank of a project that started a mere 69 days 5 hours and 53 minutes earlier when the first plank was lifted, the answer is ‘five’.
Final plank adjustments were made, glue applied and, on their knees, the final plank was pushed, then whacked into place by the carpenters. A cheer went up from the workers and the small, expectant, audience of four - Rod, the Custos, Jeremy and Philippa.
An epic day all-round, as the scaffolders from Malvern Scaffolding removed all the scaffolding from around the organ ‘that’s the first time I’ve seen it’ said one of the carpenters.
The plumbers had their heads down the hole which contains the heating mains as they ran the final few cables back to the boiler room.
The final plank may have gone in, but the Priory’s not quite ship-shape yet. There are a few finishing touches to be made, the contractors’ compound to be removed and the minor task of cleaning the whole Priory…but what’s a little dust in the scope of this amazing, transformative project?
If you’re a floor levelling donor ‘thank you’ - it couldn’t have happened without you.
Keep an eye on the Calendar as to Priory opening times over the next week, as it will be closed when the furniture is returned.
