And they called the wind…

In a gripping finish to an evening of fellowship and frivolity, quizzing in the name of floor fundraising, it all came down to just one question.

And what a mightily difficult question that turned out to be…

‘In the musical ‘Paint your Wagon’ what was the wind called?’

Silence.

Silence for a very long time.

Hands shot up from other teams, but Mary, the Quizmaster, was having none of it. Grey matter was examined with a fine-toothed comb by the two tied teams - ‘Windy Millers’ and ‘Choral Chaos’. Then, from ‘Choral Chaos’ came the answer ‘Mariah’! There was audible relief from everyone, as Choral Chaos received their prizes.

So can you name 10 UK cities which have the letter G in them? No towns, mind you, just cities. And what colour is both a flower and a mollusc? Which ‘Roger’ wrote the Mr Men? What vegetable is in every dish with the name ‘Dubarry’?

The quiz teams were treated to a well-deserved and beautifully prepared delicious supper of baked potatoes with a huge selection of fillings and salad, followed by home-baked biscuits prepared by Priory volunteers and served with a smile. A happy hum of conversation filled the Lyttelton Rooms as experiences, particularly dramatic failures ‘Oh MONROVIA!’ ‘Aargh CAMBRIDGE’, were shared between teams.

Meanwhile, on the Bring and Buy table, a flourishing trade was being done in unwanted Christmas presents. Unique souvenirs created from redundant Priory floor timbers by a skilled woodworker from the congregation were selling like hot cakes.

The next day at the 10.30am Communion service, held in Malvern College Chapel, as the floor work continues, Rod was able to make the fantastic announcement that £800 had been raised by the Quiz.

A huge ‘thank you’ and ‘well done’ for a fabulous evening of entertainment to the Floor Fundraising Group.
