Creation in an astonishing new light

‘Spot the difference’ was the game of the day, when a small band of stained glass enthusiasts travelled to the York Glaziers’ Trust, in York, to see the progress being made in conserving the Priory’s Creation window.

And the difference was astonishing. There wasn’t much skill required to see the difference between ‘before’ and ‘after’! Take a look at the photo bottom left. On the left is God creating the World, which has been conserved, and to the right, a panel that has yet to undergo the painstaking, skilled, work.

Once conserved, the colours and details of the unique English Mediaeval glass shine through, maybe nearly as clearly as when their craftsmen first created them, around 1470 -1490.

York Glaziers’ Trust is making excellent progress and it is expected that the window will return to the Priory after Easter this year, to be installed behind state of the art environmental protective glazing. Watch this space!

To find out more about the Priory’s stained glass, take a look at the stained glass page on this site, or contact the Friends’ Shop for a copy of Katherine Little’s excellent guidebook to the stained glass.

With thanks to the donors who made this vital work possible - the Headley Trust, the Worshipful Company of Glaziers and Painters of Glass and the hundreds of individual donors of the Friends of Malvern Priory.
