Good Friday

The Priory churchyard was the focus of Walks of Witness from across Malvern on Good Friday for the Churches Together in Malvern ‘Good Friday Worship’.

Taking it in turn to carry and to follow a bare wooden cross, Christians of all denominations converged to hear the message of Good Friday in glorious Malvern sunshine.

Against the backdrop of the Malvern Hills, with the businesses and busy-ness of Church Street behind, the Priory Worship Band led several hundred people of all ages in song with reflections and prayers from other Malvern churches.

Hot drinks and Hot Cross Buns were served to all by a dedicated team of Priory Tea-and-Bun People and enjoyed in the sunshine.

The Three Hours were marked inside the Priory with Altogether Worship, featuring ‘Resurrection Eggs’ to tell the Easter story, with music led by the Junior Choristers. The children enthusiastically participated and were rewarded with an early chocolate Easter egg.

The second hour, led by the Praise Group asked ‘Were you there?’ in a series of reflections and songs. At the end, as a solo voice sang purely into the vast space
‘Oh to see my name
written in the wounds,
for through your suffering I am free.
Death is crushed to death,
life is mine to live.’
the chink of iron was heard, as the congregation each received a 4” nail.

The Third Hour Devotions began with plainsong from the lower voices of the Priory Singers, and explored, through readings, music, reflections and silence, the impact of the crucifixion on those around Jesus. An impact that resonates in our lives, nearly 2,000 years later.

’May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all, now and for evermore. Amen.’
