Holy Saturday, the Flower Arranger’s Tale

Great Malvern Priory Flower Arrangers

No sooner had the final words of Morning Prayer ended in St Giles’ chapel, than the Priory Flower Arrangers started working to create the huge number of beautiful, bowls, pedestals and floral hangings.

The scent of the Easter Lilies mingled with tea, coffee and good cheer, as memories of preparations for Easters gone by, not least the Covid years, were shared by the willing workers.

Visitors were in for a treat, as first the Junior Choristers and then the Priory Singers rehearsed for Easter Day. ‘This joyful Eastertide, away with sin and sorrow’, they sang, filling the building, and joined, more quietly by the voices of many of the flower ladies.

For today, we know of the resurrection. All those years ago, it wasn’t ‘this joyful Eastertide’ at all. It was sadness and despair. Tomorrow, as we gather with Christians from across Malvern on the Worcestershire Beacon, at 6.15am, to await the dawn of Easter day, may we share again the joy of those first women, who discovered ‘He is risen’.

We will celebrate tomorrow. All are welcome from 6.15am on the Beacon, at 8am, 10.30am and 6.30pm. For full details see the Holy Week and Easter tab.
