Happy New Year
‘Ring out wild bells to the wild sky’
Above the voices of the Malvern revellers, above the crackling of fireworks, at midnight the bells of the Priory rang out across town, wishing all who heard a ‘Happy New Year’ and telling of God’s love for us all.
A very Happy New Year 2024
Thanks to Paul, the Joint Tower Captain at the Priory, for sharing this…
’The Priory Bellringers were active at midnight on the 31st December, both ringing out the old year and welcoming the New Year. A farewell to the old year was rung with a piece referred to in ringers terms as ‘Diminishing Rounds’, where all ten bells are rung as normal one after the other and then one by one, the bells are stopped so as to eventually leave just the tenor or heaviest bell ’tolling’ to mark the departure of the old year … it’s really quite sad and mournful!! Then comes the fun of welcoming the New Year, first with the tenor bell ringing the midnight chimes and immediately followed by the joyful sound of all the other bells joining in.’
