It was celebration time at the Priory, as Mothers’ Union members from across the Diocese gathered for the Worcester Diocesan Festival Eucharist on Wednesday.
Bishop Martin, Bishop of Dudley and Acting Bishop of Worcester, commissioned the new MU Diocesan President, Jill Crofton, and the Trustees for the triennium 2025-2027 during a celebration of Holy Communion. It was wonderful, too, to welcome Comfort Idowu-Fearon, the MU Provincial President, who had travelled all the way from London on her first assignment in post.
Bishop Martin encouraged all members to support Jill in the important work of the MU, serving God and the community. As Lent approaches, he challenged everyone to pray, to fast (maybe even digital fasting…), and to be of service to others, something close to the heart of the MU.
Beautifully decorated MU Banners from members churches were processed into and out of the service, with the Bishop, banner-carriers and the new President and Trustees gathering for a group photo at the font. Then it was time for a good catch up over tea and an amazing range of home-made cakes - the Benedictine Bakers’ creations were complimented with delicious bakes from other parishes.
MU members left, replete both spiritually and physically, revitalised to continue living out the words of the Founder, Mary Sumner’s prayer…
All this day, O Lord, let me touch as many lives as possible for thee; and every life that I touch, do thou by thy spirit quicken, whether through the word I speak, the prayer I breathe or the life I live. Amen.
