Pipes, wires and insulation

Clockwise from top left, the view down the nave, new underfloor insulation going in with tracks for the underfloor heating pipes, spaghetti junction, pressure testing the new pipework

Today was a very testing day…

…for the brand new shiny (but highly insulated) copper pipework, as it was put through its paces by pressure testing.

And all are delighted that it passed with flying colours. Another step towards having a level nave floor.

As the joists are replaced, a specially manufactured, suspended plywood tray is placed between each one. In this tray, two layers of sheet insulation material will cradle the underfloor heating pipes. The top layer of insulation has grooves, just waiting for the pipework to go in.

In amongst all of the pipework and insulation, there’s several spaghetti-junctions-worth of wiring, both for the existing requirements, but also with cabling for the future. No-one wants to be lifting the new floor once it’s down.

So it’s a complex task, and it’s proceeding apace. We’re delighted to welcome so many to have a look at a very different Priory at the moment, through the special viewing windows. Do come along too - every weekday is different - and if you were able to donate to help us to fund the air source heat pumps to run the underfloor heating, that would be fantastic.

As ever, it’s free entry at the Priory. We hope to see you soon.
