Why is Lifepath like sheep?

It’s waterproof!

Day 2 of Lifepath 23 dawned in true British summer style - rain. The distinctively wet variety.

But nothing deters the Lifepath volunteers. And weather certainly doesn’t stop them smiling.

Immediately the Lifepath Wet Weather Plan swung into action. Gazebos were expertly put up in front of the North Porch with much joviality. The Spinning Shepherds activity leader, clad in a jolly, waterproof poncho, pondered on the wonders of creation - waterproof, shrinkproof sheep - as she set up her activity,

The urn hissed and rumbled reassuringly as ever, providing welcome hot drinks to the damp but happy volunteers as they streamed steaming through the doors.
’It’s Mediaeval coffee in a Mediaeval coffee cup’ said one, contentedly, as he settled in his seat, ready for the daily briefing, prayer and reflection.

With the final ‘Amen’ still echoing into the nave, the first schools arrived having braved the elements on foot. The children’s bags and coats were stowed and it was time for an indoor welcome procession and then on to the Lifepath programme. Enthusiasm certainly hadn’t been dampened by the weather.

Roman numerals were learnt, added and subtracted (no mean feat), stained glass designed, the spiral stair of the Tower carefully ascended and bells rung (big smiles all round) and pottage assembled and sampled in the Monastery Kitchen activity. Visitors joined the audience as the Prodigal Son was acted with gusto…and water pistols.

So it was a wonderful blessing at the end of the day to be greeted by warm sunshine as the children and their teachers stepped out of the Priory through clouds of bubbles, refreshed and invigorated to continue on their own Lifepaths.

We’re all looking forward to meeting tomorrow’s Lifepathers. See you soon!
