Did you hear Malvern Link?

Those of us lucky enough to be in town today just after 10am were treated to a glorious brain-scrambling campanological conundrum.

For in Great Malvern a quarter peal was being rung. And method used goes by the name ‘Malvern Link Surprise Royal’. So Malvern Link and Great Malvern were united, briefly, in the airwaves.

A band of visiting bellringers from Tewkesbury Abbey rang the Priory bells for around 50 minutes, raising the curiosity of visitors in the churchyard ‘Where’s the wedding?’

And indeed, there had been a wedding, but yesterday. The lawn outside the North Porch was still white with drifts of eco-friendly heart-shaped confetti.

Inside the Priory a tour group learnt about the fascinating history of the Church, the tea volunteers manned the hissing, rumbling urn for Just-a-Cuppa and the welcomers and Friends’ Shop volunteers did a fantastic job, as ever.

And that was just the morning - later, voices sang in melodious worship at the annual Choirs’ Day Choral Evensong.
