Hallo! Together again at last…

Our overseas correspondent, Christine, reports on the recent Priory visit to Germany…

Over the last 27 years many Priory members have taken part in regular exchange visits to our Partnership Church, St Katharina’s Church, Wolmirstedt, in the diocese of Magdeburg in eastern Germany.

After an extended gap for Covid, it was a joy for a small group from the Priory to be able to return there at last, renewing old friendships and developing new ones, sharing in worship, praying together and learning about each other’s church communities.

The church was undergoing extensive repairs, so meetings and services had been moved to downstairs rooms.

A joint excursion to Berlin was a highlight, visiting the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, which incorporates the ruined shell of the old church into an inspiring new build.

Usually off the tourist trail, the group climbed into the wide space between the inner and outer walls of glass mosaic panes in the new octagonal church.

Goodbyes were eased by the hope of a return visit to Malvern in 2025, when many more Priory members will be able to take part. ‘Auf Wiedersehen’!
