Onwards and upwards

Mid morning, and a peaceful silence descended on the Priory today.

It was time for a well-earned rest for the scaffolders. What progress they’d made in a day! The chancel floor, protected with a thick layer of insulation, and a huge double tower (to the non-scaffolding-trained-eye) being constructed around the organ loft and case, ready to be sheeted to protect the organ from dust.

Working carefully around the historic fabric, having no Priory visitors to add to the health and safety equation - the Priory’s closed for visitors until 15th January - makes a huge difference to the speed at which they can work, and that’ll help ensure that we hit our re-opening target.

It was good to see St Giles’ Chapel serenely laid out, ready for the Sunday 8am Book of Common Prayer Communion Service - it’s the picture bottom right, above. Worship at 8am and 6.30pm on Sundays will continue in the Priory throughout the floor levelling work and everyone’s welcome.

Don’t be misled by the wonderful ringing of the Priory bellringers on Sunday mornings starting around 10am. They will be ringing at the Priory, but the 10.30am service will be held in the Chapel of Malvern College (College Road Malvern WR14 3DF). If you discover that you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time, never fear! latecomers will be very welcome at Malvern College Chapel.

We’re really grateful to Malvern College for enabling us to meet as a congregation in the beautiful College Chapel. There’s plenty of easy parking, level access, a fine organ, the Priory’s Choir, heating, Priory service books, coffee afterwards and, of course, an uplifting service. Do join us there, you’re most welcome!
