Windows, floorboards and the case of the missing teatowel

The day dawned dull and drizzly over Malvern. Another ‘Hill-less’ day as the Malverns were hidden in low cloud.

But it wasn’t any ordinary day.

The craftspeople from the York Glaziers Trust took up their positions on the scaffold in St Anne’s Chapel. And within a couple of hours the very first piece of Environmental Protection Glass was installed in the freshly repaired stone tracery.

It might not look big (see top pic), but a small window for St Anne’s is a giant step for the Priory…carrying on a very long journey, which began in 1085. This week only the Environmental Protection Glass is being installed. Next week the Mediaeval glass will return from York.

The delicate tapping and scraping in St Anne’s was drowned out by the carpenter lifting floorboards in the nave, revealing the void beneath. Another small step…this time towards the levelling of the nave floor.

In amongst cables and pipes, and a healthy selection of cobwebs, an amazing discovery was made; the mystery of the missing teatowel (circa 1985 perhaps) was solved!

How it got there remains the Malvern enigma.
